Lilac

Lilac (Syringa vulgaris) is a species of flowering shrub of the Oleaceae family, native to the hilly area of the Balkan Peninsula. More than 800 varieties of lilac are found in cultivation, with variously colored flowers. Grows as a tall shrub or multitulpinal dwarf tree, up to 6-7 m tall. The bark is grey, smooth on young branches, peeling on older branches. The leaves are simple, cordate, dark green, or bluish. They are arranged in opposite or spiral pairs. Blooms in April-May, forming tubular, purple-pale flowers. They grow clustered in dense panicles, 8-13 cm long. Fruits are dry, dehiscent capsules that release two winged seeds. The lilac is one of the most common decorative flowering shrubs in parks, gardens, or at the edge of the forest. It is planted singly or in groups.
