Quince tree with orange spots on leaves
My quince tree is 2 years old. The leaves have rust coloured raised spots and some have circular holes in them. What could this be?
I live in the U. K. -
Hello. Please provide us with more details regarding your issue: if you have noticed the presence of a pest (for example holes in the leaf, stems, etc.); if you already applied treatments/fertilizer (please specify the products used, the quantity of the solution, and the volume of water used at dilution); what are the temperatures/climate you are keeping the plant in?
Also, please attach several pictures of the plants in question: both overall pictures (the whole plant) and pictures of details (for example, the upper, and lower face of the leaf or stem).-

Hi there,
I have enclosed photos. I have never seen any pests on the tree, but as you can see from photos there are holes in the leaves. The marks on the leaves are kinda raised. They are ‘stained’ right through the leaf. The flowers, buds, stems, branches and trunk are unaffected.
We live in Northern England where we have cool wet winters and warm wet summers. I have not used any treatment on the sapling.
Thank you

Hello. From the attached pictures, the quince seems to be affected by rust. This type of rust needs 2 host plants to complete its life cycle. The main host is represented by conifers (e.g. junipers, cedars) and the alternative host is represented by plants of the Rosaceae family (e.g. quince).
To control this disease, it is usually recommended to remove one of the two host plants to prevent the fungus from completing its cycle. However, because the spores of the fungus can travel relatively long distances (spores can be dispersed from conifers that are not in your yard but the vicinity), this measure may not effectively control the occurrence of this disease in quince.
Thus, if there are Juniper species in the vicinity of the quince tree, it is advisable to carefully check the branches and remove those showing symptoms of this disease, then remove and destroy by burning the affected parts of the quince tree.
You can also consider a preventive treatment for quince tree, from the beginning of the growing season, with a fungicide that also controls rust, such as Airone SC, 1 litre, which protects young leaves.-
