Ficus, rusty leaves
This ficus has been outside during the summer, away from the sun and it has done very well. In autumn I brought it into the house and after a while the leaves started to become rusty and fall off. It is placed near the staircase where it has light.

Hello. In order to help you with recommendations, please attach some photos of the plant as a whole and focus on the symptoms observed. Also, please describe the existing environmental conditions (temperatures, draughts, air humidity, substrate), specify how often and how much you have watered the plant during the warm season and also now, if the pot has water drainage holes, if you have applied fertilizers (i.e. dosage and frequency of application if you did), if you have carried out any phytosanitary treatments, if you have transplanted it, if you have identified the presence of pests, and other information that may be relevant in this case.
FlFlorentina4 January 2024After sitting outside in the yard all summer and doing super well, when it got cold outside I brought it inside the house on the staircase where there is light and warmth. I did not apply any fertilizer. Thank you.

In this case, the deterioration can be related to a combination of biotic and abiotic factors, such as stress due to changing environmental conditions, high and/or constant substrate humidity, blockage of respiration processes at the root level, insufficient aeration, depletion of nutrients in the substrate and lack of fertilization, the development and spread of phytopathogens, etc. Given the current state of the leaves that can be seen in the photographs, they should be removed as they will not recover. Afterwards, if the plant still has healthy leaves, it is recommended to ensure its optimal growing conditions (Ficus, plant care and growing guide). It is not advisable to cover the substrate with foil or other materials that keep the substrate moist and block the respiration processes of the roots. You should also make sure that the pot has drainage holes to avoid water collecting at the root level. High and constant humidity favors the development and spread of pathogens, and therefore root rot. It is important to remember that watering should be carried out moderately, allowing the substrate to dry slightly before watering again, but using a sufficient amount of liquid.
If you consider that the ficus still has a chance of recovery, you can consider carrying out 2-3 treatments, at an interval of 7-10 days between them with a biological fungicide, such as: Dynamic, 100 g, applied by watering, in a dose of 10 g/10 L water. It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment (respecting the mentioned dosage), because the already prepared mixture does not have a shelf life longer than 24 hours. In addition to combating fungal diseases, it has a stimulating effect on the development and resistance of plants.
The future development of the plant cannot be predicted.-
