MPMadalina Popa8 April 20242 Wish green leaves
Ficus, affected leaves that later fall off
Hello,
Please help:
1) Ficus Benjamina (age, approx 6 years) – I moved it, many leaves fell off (but not all!). After that, the big leaves started to look like in the pictures (the ones with a lot of white). There are many leaves affected, to various degrees. However they don’t fall off immediately but stay very much attached to the branch.
It also has many new leaves growing – but to me they look a bit wrinkled – I have attached a picture of one such leaf.
2) In the same apartment, in another room, I have another Ficus Benjamina (+10 years old), with much darker leaves that is in much better shape, but still has a few spots – see photo with leaves with more green and almost no white (where I have marked the problem with red). What you can see on the rest of these leaves is just dust (which I can’t seem to be able to remove completely).
Applied treatments: none
Fertilizer: in the last month, twice, a fertilizer that is diluted in water (a fertilizer for green plants, nitrogen 6% – distributor: Amina) – previously, nothing.
The questions are:
1) What is the problem? How can I treat it? Do I have to remove the affected leaves?
2) Do they need treatment?
Thank you!Attachments:

Hello. In order to help you with recommendations and advice please send us more clear photos of the affected leaves (both the topside and the underside) of both plants. Also, please detail the environmental and care conditions (if they have been recently transplanted, if there are heat sources or cold draughts near the plants, how often they are watered, if the air in the rooms is dry, and any other relevant information).
MPMadalina Popa10 April 2024I only specified the changes in the original message. Everything else was constant.
Watering – since February this year, we have decreased the amount of water for each. The older plant seems to do better with less water.
I’m adding 2 pictures with the underside of the leaves.
The main difference is that the younger plant is obviously suffering, and the older one has in the whole crown only 3 leaves affected (and those only a little).
Thanks!Attachments:

From the attached pictures, as well as from the information provided, the deterioration of the plants could be caused by one or more factors, such as: low light intensity (plants with more pronounced variegation being more sensitive, in this case), low atmospheric humidity (the drying of leaves from the outside to the inside), compacted substrate or lack of space for root development, etc. In this case, it is recommended to loosen the substrate slightly or repot the plants in larger flower pots (Indoor plants - Repotting), using a substrate that is specially designed for indoor plants (e.g. Green Plants Professional Substrate, 10 litres). If you choose to repot your plants, after transplanting it is recommended to administer 2-3 treatments with a product such as AMN BonaVita, 500 ml. This is a natural fertilizer that helps to improve the quality of the substrate, supports root development and increases the plants’ resistance to stress factors. After completion of the last treatment with AMN BonaVita, 500 ml, after 7-10 days, it is recommended to periodically apply a fertilizer that has been specially developed for ficus (e.g. Fertilizer Ficus Freund, 350 ml). It is also recommended to increase the atmospheric humidity (you can consider spraying the plants with water using a sprinkler such as Tech 3, placing containers of water near the plants or using humidifiers). Further, it is recommended to take proper care of the plants (Ficus, plant care and growing guide) and to monitor their evolution for a while. In case other symptoms appear or the mentioned ones worsen, we are waiting for your message accompanied by photos.
