Ficus, leaves with dry edges and white spots on their underside
Hello!
I have a Ficus elastica, which is drying out at the edges, and some leaves have white spots on the underside.
Please tell me everything I can purchase for it.
The latest changes, but not very recent:
– About 3-4 months ago, I changed the soil and pot to a larger one.
– I cut off its top 2 months ago.
After this, no immediate changes appeared in its condition.
The drying of the leaves occurred about 2-3 weeks ago.Attachments:

Hello. In order to help you with recommendations, please give us more details about the care of your ficus: how long have you had it, what are the environmental conditions (light, humidity, temperature, etc.), how have you watered it so far, at what intervals, how much water do you usually use, if you have carried out treatments or if you fertilized it as well as any other relevant information. Also, please check the plant carefully and let us know if you notice any other symptoms of disease (deposits, powders, discoloration, white fuzz, fine webs on the underside and topside of the leaves, etc.) or pests. In case you notice symptoms of disease/pests, please attach clear and relevant photos of them.
CrCristina1 February 2024I got it before the pandemic. It was a shoot.
So before 2020. I’ve probably had it since 2019.
In the summer it sits on the balcony and I water it every morning.
In winter it sits in the kitchen and I water it once a week. When the soil is dry.
I can’t tell if it has any white fuzz. It looks like dust to me. Maybe there’s some white fuzz underneath the badly damaged leaves. Other than that, they’re drying out and have those spots. But not all of them.
I have 2 other small leafed ficus plants in the living room. Those had an infestartion with spider mites and their leaves turned yellow and fell off. I don’t know what my husband kept spraying them with to make them go away.
But they haven’t been in contact all these years. Therefore, the ficus we are talking about (Ficus elastica), was able to grow up to the ceiling in spite of the other pests in the living room.
It has no webs.
I have attached pictures in both posts.Attachments:

Hello, from the photographs and information you have provided, the deterioration of the ficus could be caused by several factors such as: a mite attack, low atmospheric humidity, the possible presence of draughts, lack of proper fertilization. In this case, it is recommended to remove the badly affected leaves and to carry out 2 treatments with an insecticide such as Vertimec 1.8 EC, 10 ml, in a dose of 5 ml/10 L water (the 2nd treatment should be carried out 7-10 days after the first treatment). To increase the effectiveness of the insecticide, it is recommended to add an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L to the solution. Spray the solution as finely as possible, so as to achieve an even distribution on the plant, both on the topside and underside of the leaves and on the stem. It is advisable to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment (respecting the mentioned dosage), as the already prepared mixture does not have a shelf life longer than 24 hours. The treatments can also be applied to the other plants in the premises (if any).
To help the plant overcome this period of stress, 7-10 days after the insecticide treatments have been completed, it is recommended to apply a foliar fertilizer such as Organic Spray for Indoor Plants Zimmerpflanzen, 500ml, which helps the plants to recover more quickly after an infestation. And from spring onwards, it is important to provide the necessary nutrients for its optimal development, using a fertilizer specially designed for ficus and green plants (Fertilizer Ficus Freund, 350 ml). As far as the humidity is concerned, since the ficus is a tropical species, it prefers a higher atmospheric humidity. To increase the humidity, you can consider spraying the plant with water using a sprayer such as Tech1 or placing containers of water near the plant or using a humidifier.
More information on the care of the species can be found in this article in the Armuro Community: Ficus, plant care and growing guide.-
