Citrus plants, the leaves of the lemon and mandarin tree have fallen off
Hello,
I have a problem with my two lemon trees and with my mandarin tree and maybe you can give me an idea what to do, as I don’t want to lose them.
Around the end of October they started dropping leaves, initially 1-2 every few days, but I see that they are falling much faster now – 1-3 per day (per plant). At the same time two of the plants are blooming and still producing flowers. New leaves have not grown since the beginning of October.
I have tried looking for any pests present, but there is nothing on the leaves or in the soil. I have had a problem with the blackfly (fungus gnats) on other plants and I have added diatomaceous earth on top of their substrate and sticky butterflies (adhesive traps) to prevent their infestation. However, I have not seen any flies for 2 weeks now.
As environmental conditions, the plants have always stayed in the same area, not moved from outside into the house. The ambient temperature in the room where they are kept is between 17-20 degrees Celsius constantly, the room is aired at least twice a day.
They are placed next to the sunniest window I have, but considering the time of the year and the lack of sun in winter I also got a led lamp for plant growth with which I supplement the light from time to time.
I apply both a foliar fertilizer (bought from you, applied every 4-6 weeks) and a fertilizer applied when watering, as I have done all year. Until October they did well and grew new leaves constantly.
As watering frequency – I check them every 7-10 days so that I don’t water them too often and they rot, and if the soil is dry 2 fingers from the surface I water them until the water reaches the tray (without leaving too much water in the tray).
They are planted in pots with holes at the bottom, with special soil for citrus plants, so the water doesn’t stagnate.
What I noticed before the leaves started to fall off is that some of the new leaves grew a very light colour and with darker green veins. The problem didn’t go away, the leaves stayed that way (see pictures). I don’t know if it has anything to do with the leaves being fallen off now.
I’m open to any suggestions, I really wouldn’t want them all to die after caring for them for a few years (last winter they didn’t suffer this and were in exactly the same spot) with the same care routine.
Thanks 🙂
