      Citrus, dried leaves, sticky leaves

I treated this lemon tree for aphids and it was fine for a while. Now some leaves are drying out and a sticky liquid appears on others. In the soil there seems to be gnats. 2-3 show up if I shake the soil. What can I do to make it recover?
(The gnat can be seen in the last picture above the pot, in flight).

Hello. To help you with recommendations and advice please attach more clear photos of the whole plant as well as the affected leaves. Also, please tell us when you carried out the treatment(s) and what products you used. It is also important that you check the plant carefully and let us know if you notice any fine webs, white fuzz, spots, brown formations or pests on the plant and send us close-up photos of them, if applicable.

The affected leaves are the ones in the pictures: in the first one is the leaf that is drying out, in the second one is the sticky leaf, in the third one there is a fly above the pot. I can’t do any better.
The treatment was about 2 months ago. I once administered Nissorun, a week later Milbeknock. It then had some tiny red pests with super fine webs. I got rid of them, but these problems appeared.
I can’t find any other webs now, nor does there seem to be any fuzz. But I did find a few more sticky leaves and another one drying and twisting. No brown formations either.
I also see a slight tendency for the leaves to curl.

The fly captured in the photo seems to be a specimen of fungus gnats. They infest the substrate in pots and containers, feeding mainly on decaying organic matter. As their survival is also favored by the high and persistent humidity in the substrate, a first measure is to pay attention to the frequency of watering, letting the substrate dry slightly before the next watering, while respecting the moisture requirements of the species (Citrus, plant care and growing guide). As these insects are usually found in the top layer of the substrate, it is recommended to replace the first few centimeters with a new substrate (you can consider a special substrate, such as Citrus Professional Substrate, 20 litres). For monitoring and catching flies, it is recommended to use an adhesive trap such as Butterfly Guard, set of 10. These flies are attracted by the color of the trap and stick to the special adhesive.
It is also important to know that the affected leaves do not recover, which is why it is advisable to remove them.
Regarding the sticky substance on the leaves, only on the basis of the inserted photos and the information received, it is not possible to determine the exact cause of its appearance, as it is secreted by various insects, such as woolly aphids, scale insects, aphids, whiteflies etc.
In this case, you can consider 1-2 treatments, at an interval of 7 days, with a broad-spectrum insecticide such as Mospilan 20 SG, 3 g (in a dose of 3 g/ 10 L water). To increase the efficacy of the insecticide, it is recommended to add an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L to the solution. Spray the solution as finely as possible, so as to achieve an even distribution on the plant, on the topside and underside of the leaves and on the stem. It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment, respecting the mentioned dosage, because the already prepared mixture does not have a shelf life longer than 24 hours. 7-10 days after the treatments, it is advisable to use a maintenance product such as Contra X, 500 ml, applied directly by spraying. It supports the regeneration of plants after certain conditions of stress, or if they have suffered from pest attacks.

The sticky substance looks like it has been “sweated” or that someone has sprayed the substance from a very small distance. There don’t seem to be any insects other than those pesky flies.
Thanks for your time, you guys are wonderful.

3 leaves, 3 problems. On the one on the left you can see the sticky substance better. The middle one just fell off and I can see it’s yellow on the ribs. The third one is the curled one and I see it has some white dots that don’t look alive, but definitely not dirt or dust or accumulated solution. On some of the leaves there seems to be some whiter specks, but it doesn’t look like a web or mold, just dust stuck on.

On the inside edge I noticed these little things that look like eggs?! Or micronymphs?! They pop like fleas if I poke them with my fingernail. What are these? Why does a lemon tree grown from seed have SO many problems?

The light-colored formations, located along the rib, are scale insects. To control them, we recommend treatments with insecticides such as Movento 100 SC, 7.5 ml, in a dose of 7.5 ml/10 L water and Mospilan 20 SG, 3 g, in a dose of 3 g/10 L water. Two treatments should be carried out at an interval of 7 days. Specifically, if you carry out the first treatment with Movento 100 SC, 7.5 ml, you can carry out the second treatment with Mospilan 20 SG, 3 g, 7 days after the first. To increase the effectiveness of the insecticides, it is recommended to add to the solutions an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L. Spray the mixtures as finely as possible in order to achieve a more uniform distribution on the plant. It is important to mention that, after they die, these pests can remain attached to the leaves/branches/stem, therefore, it is recommended to remove them with a damp sponge (as far as possible). 7-10 days after the treatments, it is advisable to administer the maintenance product mentioned above.
