Cherry laurel, a pest inside its stem
Hedge (Prunus laurocerasus) – planted a week ago. It had some black tips but I blamed it on the transport. The plants look all-around good, some tight leaves like in the picture, but only a few. Today I cleaned all the leaves and cut off all the affected tips, but I’d like to know what I’m dealing with, what pest is damaging the plants. Eventually, if I need to apply any treatment.
Thank you very much!Attachments:

Hello. In the attached photos the attack of a species of moth can be seen. In the case of larvae that have already reached the inside of the branches, unfortunately, at this stage, applying a treatment is ineffective. It is therefore recommended to cut and destroy the branches by burning.
Considering the recent planting, in order to improve the quality of the soil, stimulate root expansion and increase the plant’s resistance, you can consider using a fertilizer that has been specially formulated for this purpose, such as Root Stimulator Manna Wurzelforte, 1 litre or AMN BonaVita, 500 ml, by watering at the roots (one single administration during this period, according to the instructions in the chosen product description).
From spring onwards, it is recommended to monitor the development of the plants, to ensure their optimal growing conditions (Cherry laurel, planting guide and care work) and to stimulate a vigorous development by administering specific fertilizers. Given the recent planting and the pest attacks, it is not possible to accurately predict the future development of the plants. If you identify the presence of pests (in the adult stage: butterflies, beetles), please come back with clear photos and a full description of the symptoms observed.-

When planting I applied the Manna stimulator.
The other day I inspected all the plants and cleaned all the attacked parts.
I sincerely hope they will resist, I didn’t expect to get them with pests from the nursery.
Have a nice day!AuthorPostsViewing 2 reply threadsWas this discussion helpful?
