Jasmine

Jasmine is a genus of shrubs belonging to the Oleaceae family. It contains about 200 species native to tropical and warm temperate regions of Eurasia, Australia and Oceania. Jasmines are widely cultivated for the characteristic aroma of their flowers. The leaves are opposite or alternate. They can be simple, trifoliate or spiky. The flowers are usually around 2.5 cm (0.98 in) in diameter. They are white or yellowish, although in rare cases they may be slightly pinkish. Each flower has about four to nine petals. They have two stamens with very short filaments. The calyx is bell-shaped. They are usually very aromatic. Jasmine fruits turn black when ripe.
