What’s eating my currant?
My black and red currants have flowered and appeared to have a good crop. Now however I’m left with bare stalks and nothing growing. What’s left of the stalks is much shorter if there is anything left of the stalks at all. The leaves are reasonably healthy. They have holes in them. I don’t remove holy leaves unless there is a bad infestation of something because insects need to live too. However I find it very unusual for an insect to target the flowers or very early forming bitter berries. What is eating them?

Hello. Please provide us with more details regarding your issue: if you have noticed the presence of a pest (for example holes in the leaf, stems, etc.); if you already applied treatments/fertilizer (please specify the products used, the quantity of the solution, and the volume of water used at dilution); what are the temperatures/climate you are keeping the plant in?
Also, please attach several pictures of the plants in question: both overall pictures (the whole plant) and pictures of details (for example, the upper, and lower face of the leaf or stem).-

Hello!
Thx for your very welcome response. Please see the pics below. The same thing happened last year but it was a young plant then. I definitely have something eating the plant as you can see from the leaves. The problem is I am ad avid supporter of both the Butterfly Society and the Royal Society for Protection of Birds, so unless there is a drastic infestation I tend to leave alone. I did tweak some of the affected leaves off my Joster Berry bush this year because last year the flatillery caterpillars stripped it clean but thankfully it came up again this year. However I can’t actually see what it’s eating my Ribes. Maybe next year I could protect the fruit by wrapping netting round the flowers and sealing with a tie? Mean little creatures! Oh I also have Honey Berries in the same pot which seam to be unaffected but they have not flowered or produced fruit.
Best wishes!

It is difficult to identify the pest in the absence of photos of it. Caterpillars/larvae or a weevil may cause those symptoms. In our catalog, we do not currently have an insecticide that can be applied for this purpose.
In this case, during the growing season, in order to increase the plants’ resistance to attack by plant pathogens and to keep pests at bay, you may consider regular application of a fertilizer such as AMN Fusek, 500 ml, directly by spraying.-
