Blackcurrant with withered fruits
Hello, almost all the fruit on my black currant has withered into little brown balls. This plant is a 3 yr old start from the parent bush that was in front of my house. It became too large for the location so I rooted a branch and started a new bush in the back yard. Also, I noticed two lilacs that are approximately 25 ft away appear to have Phytophthora. Could this affect the berries on my black currant? Or is something else wrong?

Hello. Please provide us with more details regarding your issue: if you have noticed the presence of a pest (for example holes in the leaf, stems, etc.); if you already applied treatments/fertilizer (please specify the products used, the quantity of the solution, and the volume of water used at dilution); what are the temperatures/climate you are keeping the plant in?
Also, please attach several pictures of the plants in question: both overall pictures (the whole plant) and pictures of details (for example, the upper, and lower face of the leaf or stem).-

Hi, Thank you for your reply.
There are no holes in the leaves. I have never seen any holes in black currant leaves. I think they are too pungent. I have not applied anything to the bush. I did spray my lawn with a herbicide safe for lawns. I don’t think I got any on the bush and there was basically no drift.
I mentioned the two dying lilacs previously, mine and my neighbour to the east. I also noticed that the other neighbour’s, to the south, huge rose bush has many dead branches this year. That I have never seen in the 12 years I have lived here. This bush is just across the picket fence, barely 5 ft away from my currant.

The symptoms in the photos may be caused by nutrient deficiency, phytotoxicity (herbicide vapors can easily travel relatively long distances on air currents), or a virus.
In the case of a virus, there is no treatment. However, to be sure, it is best to have a laboratory analysis. This can be done at a Plant Protection Institute in your area.AuthorPostsViewing 1 reply threadWas this discussion helpful?
