Walnut tree, cracked bark, treatments
This productive old walnut tree has the bark cracked in that area. What treatment , remedy can I apply to stop the spreading of the problem or to restore the bark?
Thanks in advance.Attachments:

Hello. In this case, you may consider cleaning the affected bark (up to the healthy tissue) with a sharp and disinfected tool. Then, with the help of a brush it is recommended to apply a copper-containing solution: Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g. One sachet of Bordeaux mixture (50 g) is dissolved in a small amount of water to form a paste. Copper has a bactericidal, fungicidal effect and helps wounds heal quickly. After disinfecting thoroughly with the blue solution and allowing it to dry, you can apply a healing agent such as Tree plaster, 300 g or Bio Plantella Arbosan, 350 g.
In the future, a special product such as Protekt Bio Plantella, 1.5 kg, can be used to protect the bark, applied according to the recommendations on the label.-

IoIoana3 May 2024Good evening. We have a walnut tree in our garden that has no leaves at all. There are no bruises on the trunk. The only change for it was the garden irrigation system we have had since last year.
Last year it lost its leaves very quickly at the end of August and made very few nuts compared to the previous years. Is there any way we can save it? Thank you very much!Hello. It is well known that tree budding can take place earlier or later in spring, depending on the genetic background of each tree and the environmental conditions of each area. Bud formation takes place during the previous growing season, and budding is based on the nutrients assimilated and stored during the same period.
To check the viability of the walnut tree, you can consider cutting some branches and checking the tissue (if green). If the tissue is green, most likely the budding will take place later. In this case, to improve the quality of the soil and to stimulate the optimal supply of nutrients to the plant, you may consider using a fertilizer such as AMN Nordalge, 500 ml or Organic Soil Activator, 350 ml, by watering at the roots, according to the instructions in the product description of your choice.
Later in the growing season, it is recommended to ensure the optimal growing conditions as described in our article: Walnut tree, planting, growing and harvesting. If you notice unusual symptoms on the leaves, fruits, shoots, branches or trunk during the current season, please return with photos and detailed information.
In case the budding does not occur in the near future, it is recommended to prune the tree and plant a healthy sapling in autumn (Fruit trees - Planting Guide).-

Thanks for your answer. I broke off a few twigs and they seem to be dry. They are buds but have dried up without fruiting. I am attaching some pictures taken this morning.
