Thuja, drying / complete drying
Hello! We have about 30 thuja planted a year ago in September. They were already between 2.5m and 2.75m tall. They are planted in a windy area, close to forests, so it’s cooler. They were taken out of the pots just before planting, brought as seedlings.
They have been watered, but with this drought probably not as much as they needed.
We were told that it was normal for them to dry out, that they were “self-cleaning”. We also applied Fir Fluid a couple of times, Cropmax twice and a fungicide.
A month ago they were cleaned for the second time. One of the thuja is completely dry. And now it looks like in the pictures. I really wouldn’t want for them all to dry out….I wouldn’t know what soil it is, it’s brought in from somewhere else. Yes, there are cracks all over the garden, because of the drought, but is that the only problem?
What else can I do? What happened to them? Some of the leaves have something black on them.
I haven’t seen any holes or sticky stuff, but big spiders, although I don’t think they influence them at all.
Thanks for your patience and for the reply!
I saw that there were other discussions, but some questions didn’t have all the information, so the answer is vague.Attachments:

I would add that they are near a fence, the sun does not fall directly on them except on the tips, the area being towards the south. Only in the mornings and evenings do they get direct sun, in summer, from the left and right sides.
Hello. If you have not identified the presence of pests, the deterioration may have occurred as a result of a combination of abiotic and biotic factors, such as the stress suffered during planting (Ornamental trees and shrubs - Planting guide), changing environmental and care conditions, high humidity in the soil at certain times and drought at other times, poor soil quality, presence of substances, salts or objects that have prevented a portion of the root from developing, lack of space for a portion of the root to develop (in a certain direction), lack of fertilization after planting, the occurrence of plant pathogens and others, depending on the case. An accurate diagnosis involves a laboratory analysis at a Plant Protection Institute.
It is known that the planting success of seedlings is lower for larger specimens, and the stress suffered during transport, handling, the changing environmental conditions and planting can have long-term effects, depending on the regeneration capacity of the plants and the environmental and care conditions provided. The success of planting can be influenced by many biotic and abiotic factors and it is impossible to predict. Often, once the symptoms of wilting start after transplanting, the process is irreversible – especially if the size of the root system is disproportionate (considerably smaller) to the size of the above-ground parts of the plant. The success can be stimulated by administering specific fertilizers and ensuring the optimal growing conditions.
Thus, considering the area where you are and the state of the conifers, it is recommended to clean the dry parts of the plants and to administer a fertilizer with high potassium content, Fertilizer 0-0-40 Azet HerbstKali, 2 kg, as recommended in the product description. It has the effect of increasing frost resistance and improving the water balance of trees and shrubs.
Subsequently, it is advisable to monitor the development of the conifers until spring, i.e. to ensure the optimal growing conditions (Thuja, planting guide and care work). Starting in spring, it is recommended to use a fertilizer that is specially formulated to improve the fertility, texture and structure of the soil, as well as to stimulate the microbial activity in the soil: AMN BonaVita, 500 ml (by watering the roots, according to the instructions on the label). Also in spring you can resume foliar fertilization with Fir Fluid, 350 ml.
If you identify symptoms that can be related to fungal diseases or pest attacks (holes, various deposits, growths, wet areas on the stem or branches, fungal fruiting bodies (Conifer diseases: affected needles, branches and cones and Conifer pests: information and treatments), please return with clear photos and additional information. Given the current condition of the conifers in the attached photos and those mentioned above, it is not possible to say exactly how they will develop in the future.-
