Pine, stem with drying needles
Hello, I planted this pine tree in April this year. At planting I applied Radifull and then some time later I added some conifer fertilizer. For some time now, about 2 or 3 months ago, it started to dry out and the needles on the stem and on some branches started to fall off. However, it seems to be growing and it is green for the most part, but I am worried about its condition and I don’t want to lose it. The soil is pretty poor in the yard, the water is not draining and probably some water is stagnating at the roots (I can’t be sure of this). Regarding the sun, it gets light all day after 10 am until almost sunset. Near it I also have a spruce, planted in June that seems to be turning yellow too, how can I help them?

Hello, it is known that the slight drying inside the crown and at its base is a normal phenomenon in conifers, which occurs with increasing age, i.e. with the growth and thickening of the crown and, implicitly, the limitation of the penetration of light inside it. The symptoms can be accentuated by several factors, including excessive moisture at the roots and lack of evaporation due to vegetation or gravel at the base of the plant. In terms of water drainage and to avoid water stagnation at the roots of the conifers, it is recommended that the vegetation or gravel around the stems of the plants be removed and the soil gently loosened. Since the plants in the attached photos look good overall, and the drying seems to affect only the needles at the base of the branches, it is recommended to use a granular fertilizer such as Fertilizer 0-0-40 Azet HerbstKali, 2 kg, to increase the plants’ resistance to frost. The fertilizer is administered by spreading it around the plants, in a dose of 20 – 30 g/sqm, followed by incorporation and watering. Later, in spring, when the plants start to grow, for a good growth and development, it is recommended to administer specific fertilizers: granular, by incorporation (Conifers and Decorative Shrubs, 1 kg) and foliar (Fir Fluid, 350 ml or Evergreen Fluid, 350 ml), applied periodically, as specified in the products description.
