Orchids, sticky substance, dry leaves
Hello! My orchids have a sticky substance on them. The buds have wilted and fallen off. Also, the leaves in the center are drying out. It looks contagious, and some plants have wilted and died. How can I solve this problem?

Hello! In order to be able to help you with a recommendation, please give us more details about the care of the plant: whether the plant is near a heat source, whether you have carried out treatments, whether you applied any fertilizers, how you water the plant, what kind of water you use, how much water you use, whether the pot has drainage holes or not, etc.
Also, let us know if you notice any other symptoms of disease on the plant, such as deposits, powders, discoloration or pests (check carefully). If there are, please attach several focused photos of them. Also, please attach a few clear photos of the plant, both close up and overall.MAManaila Adina20 January 2024Hello! The plants sit on the windowsill and the temperature in the room is about 24-25 degrees. They are watered about every 2 weeks with regular water from the tap. The pots have drainage holes. I haven’t used any fertilizers lately.

These symptoms can be caused by factors such as: the attack of thrips (pests hardly visible to the naked eye), inadequate watering, unfavorable environmental factors, etc. For the time being, it is recommended to remove the severely affected stems and to respect the specific care requirements. To be on the safe side, you may consider treating against thrips with an insecticide such as Vertimec 1.8 EC, 10 ml, in a dose of 5 ml/10 L water. To increase the effectiveness of the insecticide, it is recommended to add an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L to the solution. Spray the mixture as finely and evenly as possible on the plant, on the topside and underside of the leaves. It is important to mention that the affected leaves will not recover.
Subsequently, 10-12 days after completion of treatment, it is recommended to administer a fertilizer specially formulated for orchid maintenance: Biplantol Orchid, 500 ml, by spraying, according to label recommendations: Orchid, plant care and growing guide.-

I ordered the solutions. Vertimec and Break Thru. How many days do I have to spray the plants with Vertimec and Break Thru? The treatment will be carried out only once. If you need a smaller amount of solution, you can dissolve a smaller amount of insecticide, depending on how much you need, respecting the recommended dose (for example: 1 ml insecticide in 2 litres of water). If you have other plants on the premises, you can apply the treatment to them as well. The undissolved insecticide can be stored (hermetically sealed) in a cool place, away from light. The two substances are applied in a mixture.
