Orchid, black spots on the tips of the leaves
Hello! For 2-3 weeks I have noticed that the leaves of the orchid are starting to turn black. The flower sits on the windowsill in the kitchen and is watered once a week for 20 minutes. The temperature is somewhere around 22-23 degrees, it has light. The only problem is that when we open the window the draughts blow towards it. I have often moved it to the table so it doesn’t sit in the direction of the cold air. Could this be the problem?

Hello. In order to help you with recommendations and advice, please send us more clear pictures of the observed symptoms and give us details about the growth and care of the plant: how long have you had it, how do you water it (by immersion or by pouring from the top of the pot), the source and temperature of the water, if you have carried out treatments or fertilized it, and any other relevant information. Also, please check the plant carefully and let us know if you notice any other symptoms of disease (deposits, powders, discoloration, white fuzz, fine webs on the topside and underside of the leaves, etc.) or pests. If you notice any symptoms of disease/pests, please attach clear and relevant photos of them.
CMCatalina Maria Pirvu20 March 2024I’ve had the plant for a year I think. I water it by immersion, once a week, with room temperature water, and once every two weeks I add some fertilizer to the liquid. The plant sits on the windowsill, and I think the draught has affected it too. Now I have noticed that one leaf has turned yellow, and at the bottom of the pot, on the roots, I have noticed some small orange “things”.

Hello. The slight deterioration of the orchid may have been caused by one or more factors: the presence of cold and warm draughts, high humidity at the root level, possibly low atmospheric humidity, etc. As for the deposits on the roots of the orchid, it is not possible to determine the exact cause of their appearance, as they may be residues of the fertilizer applied. Regarding the plant, it is recommended to remove the yellowed leaves and place it in a space where it can benefit from optimal environmental conditions (Orchid, plant care and growing guide). It is important to water the plant by immersing the pot in another pot with water, only when the roots of the plant turn a silvery-grey color. To stimulate the formation of flowers, the vitality and the health of the orchid, you can consider using Biplantol Orchid, 500 ml. It is applied by spraying once a week throughout the whole year. Further, it is recommended to monitor the development of the plant for a while, and in case other symptoms appear or the mentioned ones worsen, we are waiting for your message accompanied by photos.
