Orchids, small flies in the substrate
Good evening,
in my bedroom, on the windowsill, I have a few flower pots (2 orchids, 1 anthurium, a few stems of lavender planted for rooting).
On the orchid pots I noticed that there are some very small flies, like the vinegar ones.
How can I help the plants?
Thank you, -
Hello! In order to help you with a recommendation, please attach some clear, focused, close-up photos of the pest.

Hello! The small black flies seem to be fungus gnats, which infest mainly the soil, but also the substrate in pots, containers, etc., feeding mainly on decaying organic matter. As their development, as well as that of the mold, is favored by the high and persistent humidity in the substrate, it is advisable to pay attention to the frequency of watering (allowing the substrate to dry slightly before watering again, while respecting the moisture requirements of the species). In order to catch them and to reduce their population, it is recommended to continue using adhesive traps (Butterfly Guard, set of 10). In case the infestation will be high in the future, you can consider replacing the first few centimeters of the substrate (the flies are usually found there) with a new, fresh one (e.g. Orchids Professional Substrate, 10 litres, Green Plants Professional Substrate, 10 litres). It is also recommended that after watering you remove any remaining water that accumulates in the tray.
