Orchid with yellow leaves
Hello! Three of my orchids have a yellow leaf with brown spots. Also, in the last picture, one of the plants grown at the base has a leaf that seems to be attacked. I water weekly. In august, i did a treatment against whitefly that had appeared in a poinsettia and migrated to a cherry tomato plant that was on the balcony with orchids. I used mospilan + mavrik. At that time orchids had flowers.

Hello. The symptoms in the picture seem to indicate a virus, for which there is no treatment. Normally, it is recommended to remove the affected plants to avoid spreading the virus to healthy plants, but if you want to keep them, it is advisable to isolate the affected plants, and after trimming them, to disinfect the utensils used.
It is also important to carry out a treatment against insects, which are the main vector for spreading the disease from one plant to another, using an insecticide such as Movento 100 SC, 7.5 ml, in a dose of 7.5 ml/10 L water, applied by spraying. To increase the effectiveness of the insecticide, it is recommended to add to the solution an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L. To capture any potential pests (flies, plant lice), it is recommended to use an adhesive insect trap such as Impact Yellow, 10 x 25 cm.-

dadana2 April 2022Thanks for the answer, i was thinking of a virus too. What care measures do you recommend for the affected plants? Changing the soil, the pot, cutting the affected leaves? Also, can the spray insecticide solution be used several times or just once?

Hello. The care measures of the affected plants do not differ from those applied to orchids in general. After removing the severely damaged leaves, it is advisable to disinfect the tools used. Also, changing the pot is not recommended, as repotting is additional stress. Regarding the insecticide, you can perform one or two treatments at 7-10 day intervals, following the instructions mentioned above. The solution must be used within a maximum of 24 hours from preparation, thus losing its properties. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare only the solution you need for a single treatment.
