Carnation in pots with yellow leaves
Hello! I need your help again because so far you have helped me save a few plants. I have a carnation that I put in the planter in the sun on the balcony in June. It went well, it bloomed periodically, but no flowers have appeared for about a month. I think it’s very big for the planter (she filled it) and I don’t know if that’s the reason that the carnations don’t flower. Also, the yellow leaves at the base appeared after the first few weeks. I kept removing them thinking it was natural, but I understand that I’m not really doing anything right – is it water? In the last picture, there are 2 other small carnations in another pot, from August, which are still blooming but they also have the leaves already affected. Please advise me: – whether to divide the bush now or in the spring. And if possible with some details on how to do this – as for beginners. Is it done only once a year? Should I start with a bigger pot? – what can I do to the yellow leaves? – how should I take care of it during the year – I read that wilt buds should be removed by cutting. Do you cut with scissors? Thanks in advance!

Hello. Symptoms can be caused by several factors such as improper distance between plants, the size of the planter, and irregular watering. In this case, it is advisable to remove the wilted leaves, and after the flowering period (if the plants are in bloom), you can consider changing the planter, maintaining a sufficient distance between the plants to allow aeration. You can use a substrate such as Garden Substrate, 10 litres. After repotting, it is recommended to apply a rooting stimulator, such as razormin or AMN BonaVita, 500 ml , which will help and stimulate the plant to form new roots. It is applied by watering, in a dose of 30 ml / 10 l of water. Regarding watering, this can be done moderately, so that the substrate is kept moist, not soggy and the plants are watered only at the base, without reaching the water on the leaves. Also, please check carefully if you notice the presence of any pests on the plants. Regarding the division of the bush, this is a way to propagate carnations that is usually done in autumn, in the case of plants older than 3-4 years. For more information on the care of carnations, you can access our article (Carnations, planting guide and care work).

Hello. In order to help you with a recommendation, please provide us with more information about the plant: where is it located, what are the environmental conditions (light, temperature, humidity)? How often do you water it? Does the pot have holes? When did the symptoms start, exactly? Have you applied any treatment/fertilizer recently? Also, please attach some relevant images so we can observe the pests.

The pot has a hole. I water it 2-3 times a week with a max of 100 ml of water, once I put 150ml, it sits in the corner towards the window, it has had insects since I received it a month ago, but the wilted started for a week or so. I didn't put anything but water on it, bigger pictures I don't really know how to do, the insects are in a group.

The symptoms of the plant can be caused by improper watering. Thus, it is advisable to water the plant less often, leaving the substrate to dry easily between waterings, but using a sufficient amount of water. It should be noted that the plants do not absorb water immediately after watering, but first, the substrate must be sufficiently impregnated. If at the time of watering, the water passes quickly, then it is better to water the plant by immersing the pot in a pot of water for about 30 minutes, to allow saturation of the substrate. Against insects, 2 treatments can be applied at an interval of 7-10 days, with an insecticide approved for ornamental plants, such as deltasap 2. 5 ec, 5 ml , in a dose of 5 ml / 10 l water. Spray the solution as finely as possible, so as to achieve a more uniform distribution on the plant, both on the upper side and underside and of the leaves, as well as on the stem. It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment (respecting the mentioned dosage) because the mixture already prepared does not have a valability of more than 24 hours. Also, to capture the potential pests (whiteflies, aphids), it is recommended to use an adhesive insect traps Interior Insect Adhesive Trap Gelbsticker, set of 10. Pests are attracted by the color of the trap and remain glued to the special adhesive. In order to ensure a balanced fertilization, it is recommended to administer an organic fertilizer such as AMN Verde, 500 ml. Due to the content in macro and microelements, the fertilizer stimulates the microbiological activity in the substrate, which leads to improved fertility and thus to the revitalization and healthy growth of plants. For the proper development of the plant, it is advisable to respect the specific environmental and care requirements, detailed in our article (Carnations, planting guide and care work).
