Albizia, a split in its trunk
Hello,
About half a year ago this split appeared in the trunk of the Persian silk tree. Last year there were storms in our area that broke some branches off the tree as well. I don’t know if this is a sign of disease or if it is a result of the storms.
Is there any remedy or treatment for this? Should I prop it up with straps?
Thank you.Attachments:

Hello. In general, bark cracking can occur as a result of unfavorable weather conditions (storms, frost, solar radiation at certain times of the year, large temperature differences between late winter and early spring, etc.), but it can also indicate the presence of diseases (laboratory tests are necessary for an exact identification). Moreover, these cracks and wounds can be entry points for different diseases or pests, leading to the slow deterioration of the tree. Therefore, preventive measures are essential (Tree wounds and frost cracks - How do we treat them?).
For the time being, considering the aspect of the trunk and those mentioned above, it is recommended to clean the damaged plant tissue (up to healthy tissue, in the area of the black leaks), with a sharp and disinfected tool. Then treat the wounds on the trunk with a copper-containing solution. More specifically, apply a copper-containing solution (e.g. Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g) with a brush. Dissolve one sachet of Bordeaux mixture (50 g) in a small amount of water (0.5 litres) to form a paste. Copper has a bactericidal and fungicidal effect and helps wounds to heal quickly. After disinfecting thoroughly with the blue solution and allowing it to dry, you can apply a healing solution such as Tree plaster, 300 g, to all existing wounds on the tree.
Subsequently, it is recommended to take proper care of the tree (Albizia, planting guide and care work) and to stimulate its vigorous and harmonious development by administering specific fertilizers.-
