Albizia, planting guide and care work
Albizia is a genus that includes over 160 species of trees and shrubs from the Mimosoideae subfamily (the Fabaceae family). These are widespread in tropical and subtropical areas of Asia, Africa, America, and Australia. In some regions, these are considered invasive species. Generally, they have low longevity. It has compound pinnate or double pinnate compound leaves, with small, fine leaflets. The flowers grow in clusters. It is distinguished by dense stamens, which are longer than the petals. The fruits are indehiscent, green pods.
The majority are planted for ornamental purposes, but these are also used in the manufacturing of furniture or herbal medicine. The name of the genus comes from the name of the Italian nobleman Filippo degli Albizzi, who first introduced the Albizia julibrissin species in Europe in the 18th century.
