Tomatoes

Tomatoes (Lycopersicum esculentum; synonyms: Solanum lycopersicum or lycopersicon) are annual herbaceous plants of the family Solanaceae cultivated for their edible fruit. The stems are covered with coarse hairs and the leaves are arranged in a spiral. The tomato plant produces yellow flowers, which usually develop into a round, fleshy, smooth fruit and can be red, pink, purple, brown, orange, or yellow. The tomato vine can grow from 0.7 to 2 m in height and is harvested after only one growing season.
