Roses

Roses are shrubby, flowering plants belonging to the genus Rosa, family Rosaceae. About 300 species of roses and thousands of hybrids are known. Many specimens are native to Asia, but there are a few species originating in Europe, North America, and Africa. Depending on the species, they can have upright, climbing, or creeping growth. They can grow between 0.3 and 5 m and have spiny stems with alternating leaves. During the vegetative growth period, they can flower once or several times. The fruits are called rose hips and are bright red. They can be abundant in some species, but absent in others, due to the dense petals that do not allow pollination.
