Hoya

Hoya carnosa is a plant species in Hoya genus, Apocynaceae family. The genus includes more than 300 species of tropical plants. Most are native to Asia, including India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. There is a great diversity of species in the Philippines and species from Polynesia, New Guinea and Australia. Hoyas are evergreen perennials, rarely shrubs. They often grow epiphytically on trees; some grow terrestrially or occasionally in rocky areas. Plants climb by clinging and by engaging adventitious roots. Larger species grow about 1-18 m, or more, with adequate support in trees. They have entire simple leaves, arranged in an opposite pattern, which are usually succulent. The leaves can have a variety of shapes and may be smooth, pleated or patched; and many species have the leaf surface covered with small irregular silvery spots.
