Walnut tree – walnuts rot and fall off

Hi, we have a problem with a walnut tree in Balkan/Europe. The tree looks very healthy, leaves are green, thick, no blotches, no darkening, no spots… the amount of walnuts when they start to form is huge and as they start to form, before the husk is created all the walnuts rot and fall off. It is a single tree, not an orchard. We did not notice any pests. Leaves look great and healthy, thick, shiny green. We did not notice any pests, just when the shell on the fruit needs to start creating it starts to rot and falls down from the tree (all the fruits). They tried some fertilizers they normally use in the field, no clue what brand, someone told them it could be iron deficiency so they buried some iron (horseshoes and some other rusty crap) below the tree, and some “idiot” also hammered a rusty nail into the trunk of a tree. Nothing happened after that. Any ideas what can it be? How to fix this?
      Thanks,

Hello, if you did not notice the presence of pests (neither on the leaves nor inside the affected fruit), it is possible that the symptoms were caused by various biotic and/or abiotic factors: phytopathogenic diseases, unfavorable environmental conditions (inadequate soil moisture, excessive heat, dry wind, unsuitable soil conditions, etc.), and lack of fertilization.
For the time being, it is recommended to remove the affected parts (leaves, fruits) and to treat with a copper-based fungicide such as Champ 77 WG, 20 g, applied by spraying at a dose of 20 g/10 L water. It is recommended to treat early in the morning when temperatures are not very high. During and towards the end of the day, the walnut tree is under heat stress and does not respond very well to treatments.
However, it should be mentioned that this fungicide is not approved for walnut trees (there are currently no products approved for walnut in our catalog), therefore, it is not possible to specify the preharvest interval, which is mentioned by the manufacturer, only for approved crops.
Also during this period, it is recommended to use a fertilizer with a high potassium content and with the effect of increasing resistance to drought and frost, as well as improving the water balance of the trees, such as Fertilizer 0-0-40 Azet HerbstKali, 2 kg. It is applied by spreading it around the plants, in a dose of 30 – 50 g/m², followed by gentle incorporation and watering.
