The leaves of my Areca palm are turning yellow
Hello, I recently purchased an Areca Palm tree. Two days after I got it the leaves started to get stained and the tips started to dry out. Now the leaves have started to turn yellow. I have watered it once a week and it does not stand in strong light. What can I do to save it? Thanks

Hello. In order to be able to help you with recommendations, please tell us about the environmental conditions in the place where the pot is located: atmospheric humidity, draughts, temperature (i.e. how close the plant is to a heat source – radiator), etc. Additionally, please tell us how much liquid you use for watering and the source of the water, as well as whether the substrate is mainly dry before watering or not (at the surface or the first few centimeters). Also, please attach a few photos of the plant as a whole and check if any other unusual symptoms are present on the plant (translucent deposits, very fine webs, growths or other).
MaMadalina21 March 2024Hello, the temperature in the room is about 21 degrees. I water it with tap water once a week when the substrate is dry. It sits near the window but not very close. It has started to turn yellow more and more, I am afraid I will lose it. It has nothing else on the stem. Initially its leaves were stained, I removed them, and now both leaves and the stems have started to turn yellow. Please tell me what treatment to apply and what else I can do. Thank you

Hello. In this case, the deterioration may be related to the stress suffered during handling, transport and changing environmental conditions (Acclimatisation of indoor plants and Indoor plant placement according to environmental factors), as well as to unfavorable environmental and care conditions (low atmospheric humidity, possibly insufficient light, potentially fluctuating temperatures, etc., depending on the case) or the occurrence and spread of plant pathogens. For the time being, it is recommended to remove the severely damaged leaves and treat with a fungicide such as Champ 77 WG, 20 g, in a dose of 20 g/10 L water. Spray the solution as evenly as possible on the plant, on the topside and underside of the leaves (Tech1). It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment (respecting the mentioned dosage), because the already prepared mixture does not have a shelf life longer than 24 hours.
Subsequently, it is important to ensure the specific conditions for this plant species (Dormancy period of indoor plants and Palm trees, plant care and growing guide). Watering is recommended to be carried out in such a way that the substrate can dry before watering again. You should also make sure that the pot has clear drainage holes to avoid water accumulation at the root level (which can lead to the development and spread of pathogens and root rot). Additionally, to stimulate a healthy growth, you may consider using a fertilizer such as Vital NT, 250 ml, by watering in a dose of 2 ml/1L water, according to the label. 10-12 days after the application of the foliar fungicide, to support the regeneration of the plant, you can consider using a foliar fertilizer such as Interior Plant Regeneration Ackerschachtelhalm RTU, 500 ml, as recommended in the product description.
In spring, you may consider using a specific fertilizer such as Wuxal Green Plants and Palm Fertilizer Palmendünger, 1 litre, applied by watering or foliar spraying, according to the information on the label. Given the current condition of the plant in the pictures, it is not possible to accurately predict its future development.-
