Hello! In order to be able to help you with recommendations, please check all parts of the plant (trunk, branches, needles) very carefully and let us know if you notice any symptoms (such as the presence of pests, holes, sticky substances, leaking, very fine webs, deposits, growths, mold or others). Additionally, please attach several photos, both close-up and of the plant as a whole. Also, please detail the environmental and care conditions provided so far, i.e. mention when the lawn was set up and how long you have been watering the conifer with sprinklers.
DaDana8 February 2024The turf was planted over 10 years ago. I’ve been watering the garden with sprinklers ever since. Except this year the sprinklers were broken and for a long time we didn’t water. Then when we fixed them, we let them run a lot. Twice a year, in spring and fall, a gentleman comes and spreads fertilizer all over the garden. We don’t know what it is, he brings it in bags, but he’s been doing it for over 10 years. Just this year it started to dry out – or this year I noticed….
I will add other photos if I have to, just let me know how to do it. Thank you very much. I have many pictures, do you have an email address, for me to send them? I can’t upload them all here.

DaDana9 February 2024DaDana10 February 2024DaDana11 February 2024DaDana12 February 2024DaDana13 February 2024DaDana14 February 2024Hello. It is known that, as a rule, abundant fruiting signals the maturity and good vegetative condition of trees. At the same time, it is also known that some trees react to conditions of physiological stress by abundant fruiting (to ensure the genetic succession). In addition, in the case of abundant fruiting, the plant becomes weaker and more sensitive to unfavorable biotic and abiotic conditions, investing its energy primarily in fruit and seed production.
In some photos, lichens are present, usually on old, declining or stressed trees. It is important to mention that, although their presence is often associated with causes of disease in some trees, studies have shown that they do not directly affect them, but can be hosts for pathogenic fungi and insects.
In the attached photos various symptoms of deterioration can be observed, but only on the basis of the photos it is not possible to specify exactly what caused the decline of the conifer. As the decay seems to be advanced and extended throughout the entire crown, most probably the conifer in the photos will not fully recover (drying being an irreversible phenomenon for which there is no treatment). Thus, it is recommended to remove the tree by felling (Trimming and pruning ornamental species) and plant a healthy sapling of optimal size (the rate of success is higher in the case of small saplings), purchased from authorized sources and planted carefully, respecting the general conditions related to this operation (Ornamental trees and shrubs - Planting guide).
In the future, it is recommended to monitor the evolution of the plants and seek advice from specialists from the first signs of deterioration.Recommended articlesTrimming and pruning ornamental speciesTrimming and pruning ornamental species, information, advice, silvicultural practices, solutions and products from ArmuroOrnamental trees and shrubs - Planting guideInformation about planting ornamental trees and shrubs, essential steps for correct planting, watering, and other care works, from Armuro.DaDana16 February 2024If you consider that the tree still has a chance of regeneration, you can consider removing the affected portions, using well sharpened and disinfected tools (e.g. Power Pruner). The stem and thicker branches can be cleaned of lichens by light scraping. Afterwards, the cleaned areas should be treated with a copper fungicide (e.g. Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g), and coated with a special healing solution (e.g. Healing Spray Spruhfix, 100 ml).
Subsequently, you may consider a treatment with a fungicide such as Champ 77 WG, 20 g, in a dose of 20 g/10 L water, applied through spraying on all the aerial parts of the tree (as far as possible). More information about the optimal application of phytosanitary treatments can be found in our article: Phytosanitary treatments - environmental and labor protection.
Additionally, for improving the quality of the soil, to stimulate root expansion and to support a vigorous growth, it is recommended to regularly apply a fertilizer such as Soil Activator Manna Bio Bodenaktivator, 5 kg, according to the instructions in the product description.
Starting in spring, it is recommended to monitor the development of the conifer, to ensure optimal growing conditions (Fir, planting guide and care work) and to stimulate vigorous growth by administering specific fertilizers. The future evolution of the conifer cannot be predicted.-
