Silver fir, dry needles
The needles dry out from the trunk, as you can see in the pictures. No intervention has been carried out in any way (digging, cutting or anything else). No changes have been made to the area either. The watering was mostly natural. Unfortunately we have not administered any phytosanitary treatment so far. The area is mountainous if that helps. I have 3 other trees in the yard that so far have no symptoms. I am waiting for your opinion. Thanks

Hello! In the attached photos there are no symptoms of disease or pest attack. It is well known that the slight drying inside the crown and at its base is a normal phenomenon in conifers, which is caused by the reduction of light penetration inside the crown.
In order to stimulate the overcoming of this stressful period, it is recommended to ensure optimal growing conditions (Conifers, planting guide and care work, Fir, planting guide and care work) and to fertilize the conifers with specific products.
From spring onwards, it is recommended to clean the dry parts and apply a treatment with a copper fungicide, e.g. Champ 77 WG, 20 g, in a dosage of 20 g/10L water.
Also from spring, for a good growth and development, it is recommended to apply specific fertilizers: granular, by incorporation (Conifers and Decorative Shrubs, 1 kg) and foliar (Fir Fluid, 350 ml or Evergreen Fluid, 350 ml), applied periodically, according to the specifications in the products description.-

If the fir trees in the mountains have turned yellow, then what can I say about the ones near the sea?
It’s the same in my area, but the worrying thing is that the yellowing is not just at the base of the conifer but has spread all the way up.
There are more and more plant diseases…
IleanaHello. Indeed, in most cases the overall health is poorer and the longevity is reduced for conifers planted outside their natural range.
If you have identified symptoms that can be related to fungal diseases or pest attacks, please attach photos of the conifers as a whole, as well as focusing on the observed symptoms, in order to help you with recommendations (Conifer diseases: affected needles, branches and cones and Conifer pests: information and treatments). Please also mention the age of the conifer or the time of planting, when the symptoms started, and describe in as much detail as possible the environmental and care conditions provided.Recommended articlesConifer diseases: affected needles, branches and conesIdentification, treatments to combat conifer diseases with approved fungicides, integrated pest management, and prevention advice from ArmuroConifer pests: information and treatmentsConifer pests, information and advice on how to identify, useful control methods, products and prevention advice from ArmuroAuthorPostsViewing 3 reply threadsWas this discussion helpful?
