Leylandii, I want to plant them in pots

I would like to plant my cypress leylandii in pots and leave them for 2 -3 years until they grow to 1.5 -2m if possible. What should be the size of the pot and what soil and fertilizers are needed?

Hello. In this case, it is recommended to choose pots of optimal size, depending on the size of the seedlings to be planted (slightly larger than the pot in which the conifer is purchased, if applicable). In case of a small pot size the optimal growth and development of the plant can be limited, and in case of a pot that is too big fungal diseases at the roots can easily appear (because the drying of a larger volume of substrate requires a longer period of time, and the constant humidity at the roots favors the development and propagation of phytopathogens). Additionally, it is essential that the pot has drainage holes and that water does not stagnate at the base of the pot or in the tray.
When planting you may consider using a fertile substrate such as Universal Substrate Promo Garden, 20 litres. For stimulating the expansion of the roots, as well as to boost the conifers’ resistance to stress factors, it is recommended to regularly apply AMN BonaVita, 500 ml, when watering, according to the recommendations on the label. Additionally, periodically, you can apply a fertilizer specially formulated for the nutritional requirements of conifers, such as Evergreen Fluid, 350 ml or Fir Fluid, 350 ml, by foliar spraying. These fertilizers support the plants’ resistance to stress factors, increase foliage density and help prevent deficiencies and the browning of foliage.
