      Hazelnut, bitter-tasting fruit

What is the cause of the hazelnuts looking like the picture (“rotten”) and bitter? The trees have been sprayed with 50% copper, Champ77 and Talent or Vertimec. I carried out the dormancy treatment when the first leaves appeared and two more treatments at two week intervals.

Hello. In order to help you with recommendations and advice, please give us more details: when did you notice the rotting of the fruits (before harvest, at harvest, after storage)? Do the fruits have small holes? Did the plant exhibit any symptoms during the growing season (leaves with holes, deformed leaves, affected buds, holes on the stem, spots on the leaves, etc.)? If you have photos from the previous season indicating symptoms on the plant, please attach them together with the necessary information.

The leaves were in perfect condition, the fruits are not pierced and have no spots and when the hazelnuts are ripe and we try to eat them they are as I showed you and they are bitter. They fall on the ground like the walnuts, we gather them, dry them in the sun and when we eat them they look like this.

Hello. The symptoms of the fruits in the attached pictures are similar to those caused by a fungal disease. In our catalogue we do not have any approved fungal products for hazelnuts. To help the shrub, from March onwards you can consider applying a fertilizer such as AMN Fusek, 500 ml, administered by watering, according to the information in the product description. This fertilizer reduces the sensitivity of plants to stress factors, making the plants less susceptible to disease and pest attack. In general, for a proper development of this species, it is advisable to consider carrying out treatments during the dormancy period (Winter treatments with oils and copper-based products).
