Dracaena, wilted stem
Hello! I have had this dracaena for 9 months, I water it once a week with a little water. The temperature in the room is 20,5-21 degrees. It is not in direct sunlight and I rarely use fertilizer. About 1 month or so ago one stem out of the three started to wilt. I checked the stem and root, they are fine, not rotten, and the soil is not wet. It even has new leaves but now it is dying. I’m afraid it will spread to the other stems. They have never been moved from this pot, except when purchased. Is there anything more to be done? 😔

Hello. Most likely, the slight deterioration of the plant was caused by one or more factors: possibly a constant humidity at the root level (even if the substrate seems to dry out quickly at the top, small amounts of water, administered often, especially during the cold season, accumulate at the bottom of the pot – at the root level), insufficient light, possibly a phytopathogenic disease etc. In this case, it is recommended to carry out 2-3 treatments with the biological fungicide Dynamic, 100 g, by watering at the roots, in a dose of 10 g/ 10 L water. It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment (respecting the mentioned dosage), because the already prepared mixture does not have a shelf life longer than 24 hours. Also, it is recommended to remove the affected stem and water the plant with sufficient quantities of liquid (so that the soil is thoroughly hydrated), and before watering again, the first 3-5 cm of the substrate should be dry. To stimulate the plant’s own regeneration capacity, you may consider using a fertilizer such as Vital NT, 250 ml. This fertilizer should be applied by spraying, according to the label. More recommendations and tips on how to grow and care for this plant can be found in our article in the Armuro Community: Dracaena, plant care and growing guide.

Recommended articlesRVRațiu Violeta1 February 2024Hello, thank you! Is there any chance for the stem to recover? Should I move it to another pot?
If when you divide it you notice that the roots and the lower part of the stem show no signs of decay, you can try transplanting this stem. When transplanting (Indoor plants - Repotting) it is important to use a substrate with good water drainage characteristics (Green Plants Professional Substrate, 10 litres) and 2-3 weeks after repotting, you can also apply Vital NT, 250 ml, to this new plant.
