Hello. In order to be able to help you with recommendations, please describe the environmental conditions in the area (sun exposure, temperatures, wind, soil), specify how often, by what method and with what amount of liquid you have watered in the previous season, if the soil is wet/damp at any time, if you have applied any fertilizers, if you have carried out phytosanitary treatments, and any other information that may be relevant in this case. Additionally, please check carefully and let us know if you notice any other unusual symptoms (deposits, growths, holes on stems, delimited discolorations, sticky substances, mold, pests or other).
RaRares12 March 2024Hello,
About the area – in summer from 1pm to sunset it’s sunny
In summer I water them every 2-3 days (on hot days daily)
I have not carried out any treatmentsIt is well known that a slight change in colour during the cold season can be a common symptom of some conifer species or varieties. In this case, the color change may have been exacerbated by a complex of factors, such as unfavorable climatic and soil conditions, poor soil quality, lack of fertilizing, possibly high and constant soil humidity (accentuated by the presence of a grass layer at the base of the plants) etc.
For the time being, you can consider removing the grass layer at the base of the conifers. It is also recommended to loosen the topsoil around the shrubs, at least in the area where the roots spread. Additionally, if you observe completely dry branches, you may consider removing them by cutting with a sharp and disinfected tool (e.g. Power Pruner).
Further, it is recommended to ensure optimal growing conditions as described in our article: Cypress, planting guide and care work. Considering that the activity and spread of plant pathogens is stimulated by high and constant soil humidity, watering is recommended to be carried out only at the roots, depending on the recorded temperatures and rainfall, but only when the soil is dry on the surface.
Adequate fertilizing is also essential to ensure proper growth and development after the stress suffered. During the active growth period a root fertilizer (e.g. AMN Nordalge, 500 ml or Tree Shrubs, 1 litre) and a foliar fertilizer (e.g. Evergreen Fluid, 350 ml or Fir Fluid, 350 ml) can be used simultaneously, respecting the instructions on the labels.
In view of the above, it is not possible to say how the conifers will develop in the future. If you notice any other symptoms of decay (presence of pests, holes, delimited discolorations, deposits, growths or other symptoms), please come back with clear, focused photos and additional information.-

Recommended articlesGeGeorgiana14 March 2024Hello, I bought 3 chamaecyparis columnaris that I would like to plant on the balcony for privacy from the neighbors in a 21l pot. I bought perlite and new soil but I can’t figure out how often they should be watered after transplanting and if I should add some more fertilizer for a successful replanting.
Hello. It is known that resinous species last for a limited period of time in pots, depending on the size of the pot and the size of the plant, the quality of the substrate used, fertilizers, environmental and care conditions provided, etc. If you still wish to plant conifers in pots, it is recommended to follow the general conditions regarding this procedure: Ornamental trees and shrubs - Planting guide. It is essential that the seedlings have a root bale and that the state of the root system is good. After planting, in order to improve the quality of the soil, stimulate root expansion and increase the plants’ resistance to stress factors, you can consider using a specially formulated fertilizer, such as AMN BonaVita, 500 ml. Additionally, you can consider the regular application of a fertilizer with a revitalizing and resistance-strengthening effect on conifers, such as Fir Fluid, 350 ml, by foliar spraying.
After planting, it is necessary to water thoroughly, and in the first days after planting, water daily. Afterwards, watering is recommended depending on the temperatures and rainfall, only when the substrate is slightly dry. It is essential that the pot has drainage holes and that water does not stagnate at the base of the pot or in the tray. Excessive watering can lead to root and base rot, leaf drop and create an imbalance in the plant.
The success of planting will only be visible during the growing season. For more information on this topic please read our article: Cypress, planting guide and care work.-
