Hello. Catalpa seems to be affected, more or less, by a combination of abiotic factors, such as stress during planting and changing environmental conditions, high soil humidity (accentuated by the presence of a decorative layer of gravel), unsuitable soil properties, lack of fertilization, etc. It is known that bigger plants have difficulty adapting after planting, especially if this operation is carried out during the growing season (Ornamental trees and shrubs - Planting guide). In general, bud formation takes place in autumn of the previous growing season, and flowering is based on the nutrients assimilated and stored during the same period (the appearance of leaves cannot be correlated with the success of planting). The same species may be more or less influenced by the action of the same abiotic factors. The success of planting will only be visible during the growing season, and the evolution of the specimens in the attached images cannot be accurately determined.
For the time being, it is advisable to remove the decorative layer at the base of each catalpa tree and to keep a portion of the land without vegetation. In addition, it is recommended to avoid watering the trees together with the lawn (especially by aspersion), as this keeps constant moisture in the upper soil layer and at trunk level (possibly also at crown level), thus favoring the activity and propagation of phytopathogens.
In addition, after loosening the topsoil, it is recommended to apply a rooting stimulator, which at the same time contributes to improving soil quality, such as (by watering) or (by watering) or (by spreading around the plant, followed by watering), according to the instructions in the product description. In addition, during the entire growing season, regular application of a fertilizer is recommended to increase the catalpa’s resistance and support its vitality, such as or , by foliar spraying, according to the instructions on the label of each individual product.
