Hello. In general, in the case of calathea, such symptoms (browning/drying of the tips and edges of the leaves) occur due to stress caused by unfavourable environmental conditions (low atmospheric humidity, irregular watering or insufficient watering, use of tap water for watering, etc.). It is therefore important that the watering is carried out when the soil is dry on the surface (the first few centimetres), always using soft water, and the substrate must allow a good drainage. If you use tap water, leave it in an open container for 24 hours beforehand. Additionally, after each watering, make sure that no water remains in the tray. Being a tropical plant, it needs higher atmospheric humidity, as it does not tolerate very dry air. To provide it with extra hydration, it is advisable to spray the leaves with non-chlorinated water. Considering the fact that you have recently transplanted it, in order to help it overcome the stress it has suffered, it is recommended to use a specific fertilizer, such as AMN BonaVita, 500 ml. It can be administered by watering, in a dose of 30 ml/10 litres of water. It is recommended to carry out 2-3 treatments at intervals of 10-14 days. Later on, from spring onwards, it is recommended to periodically apply a special fertilizer for indoor plants to stimulate their growth, such as Organic Spray for Indoor Plants Zimmerpflanzen, 500ml.

Recommended articlesAnAnuta21 October 2023I received a calla and after a week its leaves have suddenly turned yellow, the stem has wilted and the flowers have fallen off as if they were rotting. Why? I have watered it once a week. Can you help me with some advice as to whether I can save what is left?

Hello, in order to be able to help you with relevant advice, we kindly ask you to insert more pictures of the plant as a whole, respectively with details (focused, taken up close) with the observed symptoms. Please give us some additional details, as well: what are the environmental conditions (light, air humidity, temperature)? Are the plants placed near a heat source (e.g. radiator, underfloor heating)? Do the pots have water drainage holes? How much water do you use for watering? Have you noticed any pests or fine webs?
AnAnuta22 October 2023Hi, it’s still in the same pot I got it in. From what I’ve seen it looks like it’s rotting. I’m attaching pictures for you to see. It doesn’t stay above the radiator, I put it on the windowsill as I thought it would need light. I really don’t know the reason why it’s dying.

DMDoru M22 October 2023It seems to me that it’s because of the watering… from too much water it usually gets like that. You can try not to water it for a while, but leave it where it was until now, to get used to the place…
Hello. As the plant was recently purchased, the symptoms were most likely caused by storage, transport and environmental conditions (Acclimatisation of indoor plants and Indoor plant placement according to environmental factors). In this case, it is recommended to remove the affected parts and care for the plant according to its specific requirements (Calla lily, plant care and growing guide). It is also good to know that these species need a dormancy period after flowering. More information about the dormancy period of decorative indoor plants can be found in our article: Dormancy period of indoor plants.

I had the same thing happen to me and left the bulb over winter in the pot I bought the flower with. In late spring I wanted to throw the pot away and when I disposed of the soil, I discovered that my bulb had started to sprout… Now it looks as shown in the picture!
