A good insecticide against mosquitoes
Hello,
Please, if you can, recommend me a good insecticide against mosquitoes .. I want to mention that I used almost all the good products (expensive and cheap), but nothing seems to have the desired effect, I mean outdoors – in the yard.
Thanks in advance,
Valentin

We recommend that you access the websites of the disinsection specialists in your country.
You should have several options available, depending on your location.
RaRaduZamfir12 April 2022There is no good or bad insecticide, expensive or cheap, against mosquitoes, there are only treatments carried out poorly and overestimated expectations, due to ignorance of insect biology and how insecticides work. To be more specific:
1. Mosquitoes can only be killed if the applied insecticide comes in direct contact with them. There is no other way! Either they are killed when they are flying, by applying insecticides with the help of a high-powered equipment (aircraft / self-propelled) that sprays the substance at heights of 30-40-50m. After this, the substance, while still hovering in the air for 60-120 seconds, kills everything it comes in direct contact with, such as flying insects. They can also be killed in their resting areas (where they stay hidden), usually under leaves.
2. Treatments against common mosquitoes (Culex spp. for example) must be carried out during the period of maximum activity, either in the evening, after sunset (provided that the temperature does not exceed 25-27 degrees), or in the morning, before sunrise. This should be done with a portable atomizer, preferably directly on vegetation. The treatments with the portable spraying pump (Vermorel) give results in a proportion of a quarter, if compared to those obtained with the atomizer. The spraying pump is not able to generate a high enough pressure of the jet, not only to make the substance “fly”, but also to “stick” it to the vegetation. Any deltamethrin-based product (as active substance – Aqua K-othrine EW20, 1 litre, K-Othrine SC 25, 1 litre, Solfac Combi NF, 1 litre) offers 100% effectiveness after DIRECT CONTACT with the mosquitoes.
3. There is another method of protection (not control!!) – so we can try to keep them away if we can’t kill them all! This involves the creation of a repellent perimeter around the house, the location that is to be protected, by applying on the exterior walls (especially from 1 m upwards) and under the eaves, insisting there, some insecticide products formulated for a long-lasting after-effect (such as K-Othrine Partix, 240 ml / K-Othrine WG 250, 20 g); they are formulated to create through the intrinsic properties of the active substance, a repellent effect, keeping away (at a distance of at least a few meters) of the house / terrace, the mosquitoes. The insecticide also kills the ones that do dare to break the blockade and sit on the surface where the product was applied.
4. What to expect after the treatment:
a. if the treatment is done with the atomizer directly on the vegetation, during the period of maximum activity mentioned above and, at the same time, on the walls of the house, you can expect for the mosquito population to maximally reduce to 70% of the initial infestation level (this is the best-case scenario). That is, instead of 10 mosquitoes, you will be stung only by 3…
b. for how long? For maximum 7 days or until the first rain … why? insecticides are made to be biodegradable under the influence of environmental factors – solar heat and humidity (including atmospheric) being the most important – so that after the above-mentioned period, there is no longer any chemical where the treatment was initially applied, which might continue to kill the mosquitoes…
c. can’t it be otherwise? honestly, yes and not really … a well done treatment on a limited perimeter (yard) has the purpose of cleaning it in an acceptable proportion, but it also makes space for the invasions of the mosquito populations from the neighbors that will surely reoccupy the surface after 2-3 days; how do we get rid of them? it’s almost impossible, because we must intervene on the breeding / reproduction areas of the insects with specific larvicides, which will attack only the mosquito larvae and not the aquatic vegetation or the fish, because these breeding places are the lakes with fresh water, as well as other similar bodies of stagnant water (ponds, etc.)
In conclusion:
– common mosquitoes can only be controlled if a way is found to make them come into direct contact with the applied insecticide; spraying solutions in vain, in the middle of the day, at 35 degrees, wherever, or, as the town halls usually do, pumping chemicals from cars on the streets, on the asphalt, can lead to absolutely no reasonable results;
– if you are sure that you can follow the steps in order to carry out a proper treatment, in time, you will learn from experience and you will be better and better; at first it will be difficult and frustrating, with minimal results; if you’re not sure you can do it, call a pest control company and ask them what they are planning to do; if they explain at least 75% of the above, then they are professionals. Still, keep an eye on them when they apply the insecticides, because maybe they also read this post and just recite it …
– pray for a dry, rainless summer; the mosquito lives a little – approx. 30 days, after which he dies of old age; if they do not have reproductive conditions (rains and puddles), the population becomes extinct, naturally, quite quickly …
And one more thing: only female mosquitoes bite / sting and feed on blood – almost like in real life!; males sit under the leaves and feed on the plant’s intracellular juices; a male mosquito will never sting …
The above are valid for the common mosquito (Culex spp); for the yellow fever mosquito (Aedes spp.) the story is a little different in some essential aspects …-

Thanks for all the information! I did not even hope for such a broad and objective answer. You are wonderful. Can I bother you with one more thing? Can you recommend me a serious pest control company? Have a wonderful day!

It would be good to find a company that is very close to your home. I think that being from there, they will know a little bit about the specifics of the area … or so they should …
I have never worked for a pest control company, sorry.
