Lice

Lice are non-winged insects belonging to the order Phthiraptera. They are obligate parasites, living on the surface of warm-blooded organisms (birds and mammals), in their hair, fur or feathers. They feed on dead skin, blood and secretions of host organisms. They multiply very easily, and eggs laid are attached to hairs, making them harder to control. They are a danger to humans and animals because they are hosts for certain diseases such as typhus. The main cause of lice infestation is contact with another host (even animals). Controlling lice on the host's body is done by safe methods recommended by doctors. Specific insecticide treatments can be applied against lice in the home.
