Japanese quince

Japanese quince (Chaenomeles japonica) is a species of flowering shrub in the Rosaceae family. It grows to a height of 1 m and forms thorny branches. The leaves are oval, broad, 3-5 cm, stipellate. They are often fasciculate. Flowering is early, in March-April, before the foliage is fully developed. The flowers are sessile, red in color, growing in clusters of 2-4 or solitary. The fruits are small (4-5 cm), globose, and yellowish. They have a specific fragrance. They are planted solitary, in groups, massed, or as hedges. They are found in parks and gardens, being appreciated for the beauty of their flowers and early flowering.
