Honey locust

Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) is a deciduous tree native to southeastern North America. It is fast-growing and deeply rooted. The stem is upright, with greyish bark. The branches have reddish spines, which then turn brown. Leaves are pinnate-compound with small leaflets, turning yellow in autumn. The flowers are small, greenish-yellow, grouped in pendulous racemes, fragrant and honey-like. Fruits are 30-40 cm long, twisted, reddish-brown, remaining on branches in winter.
