Cotinus

Cotinus is a genus of ornamental shrubs in the Anacardiaceae family, the best-known species being Cotinus coggygria. Cotinus coggygria, also popularly called smoke bush, is a large, vigorous shrub that can grow up to 5 m, with green, elliptic-obovate, deciduous leaves that turn pinkish-orange in autumn. Inflorescences are clustered in large panicles with small, inconspicuous, yellow-green flowers. In the fruiting phase (June-July) they become feathery, very decorative, at first pink, then greyish. The fruit is a small, dry drupe. It is used alone, in groups, or as part of massifs.
