Basil

Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is grown both as a spice and as an aromatic and medicinal herb. The plant is dark green, strongly aromatic, with an erect stem, 30-70 cm tall, branching from the base. The leaves are simple, petiolate and the flowers are small and white or pink. Basil leaves and young basil leaves are used to flavor food, as well as drinks, cosmetics, and perfumery. The leaves contain essential oils, carotene, vitamin C, mineral salts, etc.
