White magnolia with damaged leaves
Hello, I planted this magnolia tree in the pictures in the spring, and about 2 months after planting it, I noticed that some of its leaves are turning black and the blackened part is drying out. But it still seems to be doing well because it has been growing new leaves and for a few days now it has been blooming. Please, tell me what I should do to it so that its leaves don’t turn black and it grows nicely. Thank you very much!

Hello. The magnolia in the pictures looks good overall. The slight symptoms on the leaves may be caused by a combination of biotic or abiotic factors, such as: poor soil conditions, temperature fluctuations, possibly inadequate watering, lack of fertilizing, pathogens, etc. In this case, if the specimen in question is a deciduous (drooping) species, then you can consider treatments specific to the dormancy period (after leaf fall) with copper fungicides: Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g, Champ 77 WG, 20 g or Coppermax, 30 g and horticultural oil: Ovipron Top, 100 ml or Mospilan Oil 20 SG 10, 3 g + 50 ml. It is further recommended to respect the optimal environmental and care conditions for this species: Magnolia, planting guide and care work and considering the period in which we are, it is recommended to use a fertilizer with a high potassium content, such as Fertilizer 0-0-40 Azet HerbstKali, 2 kg (by spreading it around the tree, in a dose of 20 – 30 g/sqm, followed by incorporation and watering), according to the instructions on the product label. This fertilizer increases drought and frost resistance and improves the water balance of the plants.
From spring onwards, to ensure the normal development of magnolia trees and to increase resistance to various stress factors, balanced fertilization is recommended using products such as AMN Nordalge, 500 ml, Tree Shrubs, 1 litre or Fertiorgan Micro, 1 litre, applied according to label recommendations.-

CVCristea Valentina11 October 2023Hello!
My magnolia is already 1 and a half years old since I planted it. In the first spring it made a few small flowers then in the fall it made buds like in the pictures I attached but failed to bloom due to the cold I think (the buds fell off). What Fertilizer and frost and drought protection to use for the buds to hold? And is it possible for these buds that it makes in the fall to flower in the spring? Thank you very much! The products you recommended the previous time were very good for this white magnolia.Attachments:
Hello. Bud drop can occur as a result of a combination of abiotic factors, including unfavorable environmental conditions during the summer (drought and possible heatstroke) and during bud growth (low temperatures), the plant’s small size and age, poor quality of the soil and lack of essential nutrients, insufficient light, inadequate watering, etc., depending on the case. In this period you may consider using a fertilizer with a high potassium content, as recommended above: Fertilizer 0-0-40 Azet HerbstKali, 2 kg. This has the effect of increasing the resistance to frost and improving the water balance of trees and shrubs.
The timing of bud formation and flowering can vary depending on the species and variety of magnolia. To stimulate flowering, starting in spring (after blooming) you can consider to regularly apply a fertilizer such as Vital NT, 250 ml, by foliar spraying, at 2-4 week intervals, according to the instructions in the product description. Also in spring you can resume the use of one of the previously recommended root fertilizers (AMN Nordalge, 500 ml, Tree Shrubs, 1 litre or Fertiorgan Micro, 1 litre).-

VaValentina13 March 2024Hello, I’ve written to you before about this magnolia. About 2 weeks ago I removed its protective cover against the cold and soon after I noticed that its leaves started to turn yellow. In the autumn I applied the fertilizer that helps it to withstand the frost, which I ordered from you. Please let me know how we can help her. Thank you very much!

Hello. In this case, the slight deterioration may be related to the stress suffered from the change in environmental conditions following the removal of the protective film, as well as other biotic and abiotic unfavorable factors, depending on the case (e.g. high and/or constant humidity under the protective material).
For the time being, it is recommended to regularly remove the damaged leaves and to gently loosen the topsoil around the magnolia. In the future, it is important to keep the soil around the plant permanently loose and free of various materials, at least in the area where the roots spread. Additionally, you may consider a treatment with a fungicide such as Champ 77 WG, 20 g, in a dose of 20 g/10 L water. Subsequently, you can resume the administration of the fertilizers recommended in the previous answers, respecting the recommendations in the description of each product.
The evolution of the magnolia in the future cannot be accurately predicted.-
