Potted Magnolia, pests and leaf browning
Magnolia Yellow Lantern. It is potted. I applied an insecticide (milbeknock) and a fungicide treatment after a thrips infestation and leaf spot disease. A week after the treatment the insects are gone, but the leaves are still deteriorating. Even the leaves that were not affected before the treatment become stained and dry.

Hello. Considering the current condition of the magnolia, the above mentioned and the treatments already carried out, it is recommended to remove the heavily affected leaves and avoid applying other plant protection substances on the leaves. The deterioration may have occurred due to a combination of biotic and abiotic factors, including inadequate (possibly excessive) watering, limited space for optimal root development, pest attacks, foliar treatments (depending on the dosage, method of application, volume of solution applied, timing of application – phytotoxicity), lack of adequate fertilizing and others, depending on the case. The plant seems to be affected to a high extent and the deterioration is likely to be irreversible. However, if you consider that the plant still has a chance of regeneration, in order to stimulate the microbiological activity in the substrate and to stimulate the recovery of the plant, you can consider the regular administration of a natural fertilizer, such as AMN BonaVita, 500 ml, when watering the plant, according to the instructions on the product label. Watering is recommended to be done regularly, avoiding excess, so that the substrate is kept moist (but not too wet, as the activity and spread of plant pathogens is stimulated by the constant high humidity of the substrate, and the respiratory processes of the roots can be blocked). Further, it is recommended to take proper care of the plant, as described in our article: Magnolia, planting guide and care work. Considering the current condition of the magnolia and the above mentioned, it is not possible to say exactly how it will develop in the future.

Recommended articlesAnAna-Maria29 March 2024Hello,
A few days ago I bought a potted magnolia and now I noticed that some small insects have appeared on the leaves.
Can you please tell me what solution I can use to make these insects go away?
Thank youHello! In order to help you with a recommendation, please attach some clear, close-up pictures of the insects.
AnAna-Maria31 March 2024Hello. From the attached photos, the plant is attacked by aphids. Against them it is recommended to carry out 2 treatments, 7 days apart, alternating insecticides such as: Deltasap 2.5 EC, 5 ml, in a dose of 5 ml/10 L water and Teppeki, 1.5 g, in a dose of 1.5 g/10 L water. To increase the effectiveness of the insecticides, it is advisable to add an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L to the solutions. It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment, respecting the mentioned dosage, because the already prepared mixture does not have a shelf life longer than 24 hours. Spray the solutions as finely and evenly as possible on the plants, insisting on the areas where the aphids are present. At the same time as the treatments are carried out, in order to provide the plants with the necessary nutrients and to revitalize them, it is also recommended to apply a fertilizer such as AMN Powerfertiliser, 500 ml, by watering, according to the instructions on the label. Additionally, in the future, in order to detect the presence of pests (aphids, flies, etc.) in time and to be able to apply a treatment at an early stage of the attack, it is recommended to use an adhesive trap such as Butterfly Guard, set of 10. The pests are attracted by the color of the paper and stick to the special adhesive. More details on magnolia care can be found in the article mentioned above.
