Hi! I have 2 chrysanthemum bushes (the kind that grows into round bushes in autumn), now approx. 2 months I cut the dry bush, and they have reappeared and now they are growing well, but I have noticed that some “flies” are moving on the soil of the pot and on its walls, but above all, there is some kind of insects on the tips of the plant (eggs, larvae?). I would like to know what to spray with, I have other plants around that are not affected but I don’t want to wait until they appear on all the plants or destroy the chrysanthemums. Thank you!
Hello. On the plant in the pictures, it can be seen the presence of aphids. Against these pests it is advisable to carry out 2 treatments, 7 days apart, alternating insecticides such as Deltasap 2.5 EC, 5 ml, in a dose of 5 ml/10 L water and Teppeki, 1.5 g, in a dose of 1.5 g/10 L water. The treatment is applied by spraying (Tech1) uniformly on the plant, insisting on the areas where aphids are present.
Simultaneously with the insecticide treatments, it is recommended to use a fertilizer with a strengthening effect on plants that have suffered aphid attacks, such as Fertilizer Biostäbchen for Aphid-Prone Plants, 50 g, as recommended in the product description.
The black flies in the video seem to be fungus gnats. They mainly infest the soil, but also the potting mix in pots and containers, etc., feeding mainly on decaying organic matter. As their development is also favored by the high and persistent humidity in the soil, a first measure that can be applied is to pay attention to the frequency of watering, letting the soil dry slightly between two waterings while respecting the moisture requirements of each species.
Afterward, as the process of reducing the population of fungus gnats can be long-lasting, in order to capture the remaining specimens (and to keep the population under control so that it is no longer a nuisance), it is advisable to use traps regularly, such as Interior Insect Adhesive Trap Gelbsticker, set of 10. The insects are attracted by the color of the trap and stick to the special adhesive.
