Succulents, identification, wilting and browning of the leaves from the base

      Hello,
I bought this flower in September 2023, from a souvenir shop in Barcelona. There were two initially, but I lost the smaller one shortly afterwards – through dehydration followed by leaf drying. To save the other one (the one in the pictures) – I bought a special cactus soil and a liquid fertilizer – of which I applied a little, only during transplanting.
I transplanted it in October and haven’t touched it since. I should point out that in the ceramic pot it was originally in, the flower was rooted in a clump of other moss-like vegetables and I kept them that way – so as not to damage the roots. You can still see some remnants of these vegetables on the surface – I don’t know what is their purpose/if I should have removed them.
I water it every 5-6 days, when I notice that it looks dehydrated and the soil is dry. The pot is made of plastic and has holes. The flower gets very little direct sunlight, but it gets light – as much as it can get during the fall-winter period inside the house. It doesn’t sit next to the window, as I have the heater there and I thought it might be damaged by the hot air. The temperature in the room is 20 degrees; there are fluctuations and draughts when we ventilate (approx 1 hour daily).
Please guide me on how to take care of this plant properly (I can’t find the name), as I have noticed that for 2-3 weeks the leaves have started to fall off and I am afraid of losing it.
      Thank you!

Hello! The plant appears to be a species of Astridia. From the pictures and information given, most likely the deterioration was caused by excessive moisture in the substrate (because of the moss) and improper watering, which was too much. Succulents do not have high water requirements and it is important to let the substrate dry out completely before the next watering.
Next, you can consider propagating the plant. You can use a sharp, pre-sterilized tool and gloves for protection. Cut off the healthy/green part and let it heal (during which time the callus forms, on which the roots will appear). When the first roots appear, they can be transplanted into pots. Planting is done at a depth of 2 cm, in a special substrate, such as Cactacee Professional Substrate, 5 litres. The plant needs temperatures of 22-25 ºC to grow roots. Water moderately, avoiding excessive moisture. You can also use a natural fertilizer containing beneficial micro-organisms such as AMN BonaVita, 500 ml. It stimulates rooting, it supports the plant’s acclimatization to new surroundings and it increases stress resistance. Apply by watering according to the recommendations on the label.
Given the current state of the plant, its future development cannot be accurately predicted.
