Strelitzia nicolai, white spots on the leaves and stems
Hello,
I’ve had a Strelitzia Nicolai for a year in the same place, in a very bright office. I haven’t changed its pot since I got it.
In the summer, the air conditioning was on during the day, but in the afternoon until the 2nd morning it got quite hot in the office. Then we watered it about twice a week as the substrate was drying out too hard, but I think it was a bit too much humidity since those little critters appeared in the substrate. We reduced the watering and they disappeared.
Since September the leaves have started to twist, and some of them have started to dehydrate, causing the 3rd stalk at the base to break.During this period I water it about once every 1 1/2 weeks, and spray water on the leaves about once a week. The temperature in the office is a constant 22-23° C.
Those little white dots have appeared on the stem..and 2 black spots (it hasn’t been damaged). One more stem I think will break, as it looks increasingly dehydrated and keeps dropping.I’m waiting for your reply as to what treatment I should apply to the plant so I don’t lose it.
Thank you.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

Hello. To help you with recommendations, please send us more focused photos with the white dots.
CrCristina25 December 2023Hello, I have now noticed that these white spots are also on the main vein of some leaves.
And on the stem where there are 2 black spots, these “scratches” have also appeared (if this information helps).

From the pictures it seems that you are facing an attack of scale insects (Scale insects in ornamental plants - pest management). In this case, it is recommended to carry out a first treatment with an insecticide such as Movento 100 SC, 7.5 ml (in a dose of 7.5 ml/10 L water), and after 7 days, it is advisable to alternate with an insecticide such as Mospilan 20 SG, 3 g (in a dose of 3 g/10 L water). To increase the effectiveness of the insecticides, it is recommended to add an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L to the solution. Spray the prepared mixtures as finely as possible, so as to achieve a more uniform distribution on the plant, both on the underside and topside of the leaves and on the stem. After they die, these pests may remain on the leaves, so it is recommended to remove them with a damp sponge. The damaged plant parts can be removed and destroyed. At the same time as the treatments, it is also recommended to start administering a fertilizer that stimulates plant regeneration following pest attacks and increases their resistance to stress factors, such as Vital NT, 250 ml, by watering at the roots, according to the instructions on the label. From spring onwards, it is recommended to transplant it into a larger pot that provides sufficient space for root development (Indoor plants - Repotting). You may consider using a professional green plant substrate and a rooting stimulator such as AMN BonaVita, 500 ml, applied by watering according to the label instructions.
