I am also curious for a concrete answer because I also had them in the winter in the kitchen…I washed several times a day the area where they were gathering and finally got rid of them…but I really want to know what they were…
GeGeo14 October 2022Thank you 🙂 , I have removed and discarded all the products. Indeed I found in the cornflour some bugs , I guess the white ones would have been their offspring . I will also follow the steps you suggested. Thanks
Hello, although it is difficult to identify them because of their small size, from their appearance and from the description given of where they are found, they appear to be a species of mites, called grain mites, which feed predominantly on various foods, for example, flour, wheat germ, cheese or mold spores. In conditions of high temperatures and humidity, their population multiplies considerably. Thus, as the first measure against them, it is recommended to carefully inspect all foods and eliminate, if necessary, those infested. Uninfested food should be sealed. It is also recommended to wipe the surfaces and the various containers (jars, bottles, etc.) in the kitchen/stove with a damp cloth to remove them and prevent them from reaching other areas. Other measures that can be taken are thorough vacuuming of the space, including in corners, and cracks (to remove some of the mites, as well as possible food crumbs/residues that may be food sources), ensuring good ventilation to reduce humidity, and regular inspection of food.
Also, after applying these measures, you can consider spraying the surfaces with a broad-spectrum insecticide such as i2.6 Universal RTU, 500 ml, as recommended on the label. However, considering the aspects mentioned, the elimination of mites is a long-lasting process, and it is important to follow the advice/measures mentioned, in addition to the treatments.-
