Hello,
I have two rows of raspberries – an early variety and one which yields fruit all year round. Year 2 of cultivation.
The second variety was not cut from ground level last autumn.
I noticed after budding that some leaves have yellow patches (spots) – which have persisted until the current stage when the fruit has started to ripen.
Then I also noticed that on some bushes the fruits are attacked – grey/brown spots appeared on them. And in some extreme cases it looks like the fruits are starting to rot (photos attached for all these situations).
However, for the most part, the fruit and leaves do not have these symptoms.
Please kindly let me know what treatments I should apply.
I would add that in another part of the garden I have a row planted with a blackberries. Should I apply some preventive treatment to it as well. It has no symptoms (so far).
Best regards,
Nicolae Cismasu
Hello. The symptoms on the fruit are typical of a disease (grey mold). In this case, it is recommended to remove the affected parts (they should not be left on the ground) and carry out 1-2 treatments, 7 days apart, with a fungicide such as Switch 62.5 WG, 10 g, in a dose of 10 g/10 L water. Treatments should be applied by uniform spraying on the plants in the early morning when temperatures are not very high. It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment (following the mentioned dosage), because the already prepared mixture does not have a shelf life longer than 24 hours. Treatments can also be applied to the nearby blackberries.
Regarding the yellowing of the leaves, these symptoms are specific of an iron chlorosis (iron deficiency), and it is recommended to use an iron fertilizer such as AMN Optiferrum, 500 ml, by watering the roots, according to the recommendations on the label.
