Pothos, Scindapsus Pictus ‘Trebie’ – leaves with drooping and dry appearance
Hello! I’ve had this plant since the fall of 2022. Until recently I kept it in the living room and over the course of a year it tripled or even quadrupled in size, so I finally moved it to the balcony. Indeed it has always been a plant that “hinted” when it needed water, looking slightly droopy every time it was “thirsty”, but after each watering, the next day it was alive again, with leaves looking healthy, and continuing to grow. The first 2 pictures are of its evolution in autumn 2022, respectively autumn 2023, when it was still healthy, but from the end of December it has looked like in the last 2 pictures, dry and lifeless… although I have not changed anything as far as it is concerned. I didn’t leave it for a long time without water. Could it be from the winter temperatures, considering it ia on the balcony (even if it is closed)? Has it grown too much and is not getting hydrated enough with one watering? What do you recommend? Can it still be saved, or will I have to say goodbye to it?

Hello. Please give us more details about the growth and care of the plant: what are the environmental conditions on the balcony (positioning in relation to light, temperature, humidity), how do you water, what is the source of watering, after how many days do you water it, mention whether you have carried out any treatments or if you have fertilized, and any other relevant information. Also, please check the plant carefully and let us know if you notice any other symptoms of disease (deposits, powders, discoloration, white fuzz, fine webs on the underside and topside of the leaves, etc.) or pests. In case you notice symptoms of disease/ pests, please attach clear and relevant photos of them.
SoSorana22 January 2024The location is to the southeast, with indirect light most of the day. I water it every 10 days or so, or when the soil is dry. I usually water it with mineral water but I have also watered it with tap water. I’m not completely sure about the temperature on the balcony, it’s definitely cooler than in the house, I think between 7-15 degrees depending on whether the window is left closed or open. I haven’t applied any treatments or fertilizers. Some of the leaves have started to be discoloured, one of them has spots and another is “eaten”. I have attached relevant photos in the reply.

Hello, from the last inserted photos, the degree of deterioration of the plant is quite advanced. The causes can be multiple: a possible high and constant humidity in the substrate (at the root level), the lack of a constant and optimal temperature for this species, the presence of cold draughts, the lack of adequate fertilization, etc. In this case, if you consider that the plant still has a chance of revitalization, you can remove the badly affected parts, change the location to one where the environmental factors are similar to those specific to this species (Pothos, plant care and growing guide) and administer a fertilizer such as Vital NT, 250 ml. This product stimulates the plants’ own regeneration capacity and strengthens weakened plants. The fertilizer is applied by watering, the dose being 2 ml product per 1 L water. In view of the above, the future development of the plant cannot be predicted.
