Pineapple with dried fruit and leaves
Hello! I got a pineapple for Christmas and everything seemed to be going well, but for a few days, the leaves have started to dry out, and now even the fruit. What’s wrong with it? I should mention that I water it with a small amount of water, twice a week because the atmosphere is very dry in the apartment and the soil dries out if I only do it once a week. I attach pictures. Thanks

Hello, in order to help you with a recommendation, please give us more details: does the pot have drainage holes? What is the temperature inside? Where is it located? Have you applied any treatment/fertilizer?

Hello! Yes, it does have a drain hole, you can’t see it in the picture, but it is a pot in another pot and I check to make sure there is no water in there. In the room, it is about 22-23 degrees constantly. It’s placed on a table that is near the window, so it’s relatively far from the radiator and still has light (lately though it’s always been cloudy). I have applied a universal fertilizer. Thank you!

The symptoms were most likely caused by inadequate watering (at short intervals, with small amounts of water). In general, pineapples are watered less in winter, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings, but at the same time, the soil should be sufficiently soaked. If at the time of watering, water runs quickly through the pot, it is better to water the plant by submerging the pot in a bowl of water for about 30 minutes to allow the soil to saturate. Instead, during the growing season, you can water it more often, keeping the soil moist. Also, the drying of the fruit is a normal process that occurs once it reaches full maturity. Currently, you can remove the affected portions of leaves, and to stimulate plant regeneration and disease resistance, you can use a fertilizer such as Biplantol Contra X, 500 ml More information about pineapple care can be found in our article: Pineapple, plant care and growing guide.
