Hello. According to the attached pictures it could be the onion fly (larval stage) or the American serpentine leafminer (larval stage). Against these pests, prevention measures are very important: deep ploughing in autumn, collecting and destroying plant debris, avoiding the use of organic fertilizers (manure), which can attract the adult insects, early establishment of the crop, crop rotation, carrying out maintenance work during the vegetative growth season, carrying out preventive treatments during the growing season, depending on the phenotype, etc.
At the moment, as the plants are already attacked, applying an insecticide at this stage is ineffective. Infested plants will be removed from the crop and destroyed by burning. Treatments against onion flies can be carried out at the time when the adults appear in big numbers (the time may correspond to the 2-3 leaf stage of the plants), using insecticides approved for onion crops against this pest, such as , according to the label recommendations. To improve the efficacy of the insecticide, it is advisable to add an adjuvant such as to the spray solution.
In the case of the American serpentine leafminer, we do not have a specific insecticide approved against this pest in our catalogue, and it is advisable to follow the measures mentioned above.
